Cabin on the Creek

A long-awaited memorial for my dear friend and stellar human being Lance Hughes who left this earth in October 3, 2011.  Details for this celebration of Lance's life have not yet been determined, so I am not yet sure what my part in it all might be, but there is bound to be lots of good music and many wonderful people there.  Lance hosted many amazing musicians at his wonderful cabin on the creek, me among them.  I am honored to be connected to him and his many beautiful friends.

The Chouse House Concert w/ The Don Conoscenti Trio

After the Woody Guthrie Festival in Okemah, OK, each year on Sunday my dear friend Don Conoscenti plays this annual concert with his band.  I played this concert with him in 2009 and we all agreed it was one of the most amazing musical experiences any of us had ever had.  Simply sublime.  This year Don will be joined by musical friends Terry Buffalo Ware and Dean Brown and I might get to sit in on a few tunes, too.  I'm hoping so!  Either way, the show will be amazing, I'm sure.  Don is one of the most creative and talented musicians I know and a wonderful human being.  Call Mary Katherine or e-mail chousemusic@yahoo.com for further details.

Pilgrim Chapel

If you want to enjoy some music that both touches the spirit and thrills the ear, then don’t miss the fifth annual Kansas City Icons Gospel Show on Sunday, May June 19th. Five popular, local musicians/musical groups will perform in Pilgrim Chapel at 38th and Gillham in Kansas City. Each will sing or play several gospel or spiritual songs in his or her own unique style, ranging from classical to folk, jazz and the blues. This benefit concert for Pilgrim Center – an organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for midtown residents – will offer audiences an outstanding listening experience because the structural nature of the chapel makes it acoustically perfect, meaning the sound of music sung or played there is extraordinary. The live concert will be taped and available for sale at a later date. The event is funded in part by the Richard J. Stern Foundation for the Arts.

Danny Cox, Kansas City’s blues icon.
